Course Description
This program provides a linguistic approach to addressing real-world challenges
related to language use, with a strong focus on developing practical skills and
knowledge applicable across various professional fields. Applied Linguistics utilizes
insights into language structure, function, and usage to engage with real-life
linguistic issues. This course provides an advanced exploration of Applied
Linguistics, focusing on its interdisciplinary nature and practical applications in real-
world contexts. It examines how linguistic theories and methods are applied to solve
language-related issues in areas such as language teaching, translation, discourse
analysis, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, and forensic linguistics.
Students will engage with key topics, including second language acquisition,
bilingualism, language assessment, computational linguistics, and language policy.
The course integrates theoretical discussions with empirical research, equippingstudents with the analytical and methodological tools necessary for conducting
independent research in applied linguistics.
Course structure:
This Course contains of two Academic Years, the first year is divided into two
semesters of taught core courses followed by the second academic year which is a
dissertation.
Dissertation: The dissertation involves writing a research project in close
collaboration with an expert supervisor. Students have to publish part of their Thesis
as a Journal Article in an academic journal, recognized by the Ministry.
