About:
The Department of Geographic’s at Koya University offers an excellent environment to study Geographic and its applications. It is one of seven departments making up Faculty of Education. The Department of Geographies is one of the pillars of the Faculty of Education at Koya University which was founded in the academic year 2004-2005 due to the university's keenness to meet the accelerating needs of the community in various fields. The department of Geography ( DGEO) aims to produce highly trained and professional Geographies that the Kurdistan region very much needs for the development. Our department like the other departments in the faculty is internationally recognized. Nine researchers from the department are currently completing their PhD from Kurdistan reign and Iraqi universities and one of them are professor and two of them are assistant professor and 3 assistant researchers are currently studying Phd (2 from Egypt university one from Mosel University). And the department have a 4 assistant lecture.

Graduate introduced in Section year (2004-2005) and the granting of which more than 26 master's degrees, was the introduction of doctoral study in the academic year (2007-2008) and the granting of which 6 doctorate degree in different disciplines

Undergraduate programs in the department include both pure and applied Geographies subjects together with updated optional subjects that the industry and market is in need for.

Vision:
The vision of department of Geographies at Koya University is to achieve national and international recognition in research and training students for meeting the challenging needs of industry and society. The department will become the students’ choice in Kurdistan and the region for seeking a high quality academic program with individualized attention in a high learning environment is also another point we want to reach in future.

Mission:
The department of Geographic’s challenges its academic staff,researchers working in the department, postgraduate students,undergraduate students and employees to think critically and independently, develop lifelong learning habits, acquire career skills, embrace diversity and become well-known Geographies in the regional and global community.
